How Can You Connect With Others Better?

Do you feel like the ability to communicate properly is becoming a lost art? DISC can help!

Hello Warrior!

As human beings, we are inherently social creatures. We thrive on connection and interaction with others. However, in today’s fast-paced world, it can be easy to lose touch with the art of genuine connection. So, how can we improve our ability to connect with others better?

Allow me to offer a few insights:

  • Active Listening. One of the most important aspects of connecting with others is active listening. When we truly listen to someone, we are showing them that we value their thoughts and feelings. This means putting away distractions, making eye contact, and truly absorbing what the other person is saying. It’s not just about waiting for our turn to speak, but rather engaging in a meaningful conversation.
  • Empathy.  Putting ourselves in someone else’s shoes and attempting to understand their perspective can go a long way in fostering deep, meaningful connections. When we show empathy, we demonstrate that we care about the other person’s feelings and experiences.
  • Building Rapport. This is crucial for establishing strong connections. Finding common ground and shared interests can help create a sense of unity and understanding. Whether it’s through shared hobbies, experiences, or values, finding commonalities can help bridge the gap between individuals.
  • Body Language. Non-verbal communication is also a powerful tool in connecting with others. Our body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice can convey a lot about our feelings and attitudes. Being mindful of these cues and using them to convey warmth and openness can help to create a sense of trust and understanding.
  • Gratitude and Kindness. Practicing gratitude and kindness can help strengthen our connections with others. Expressing appreciation for others and showing kindness can help build a positive atmosphere that fosters meaningful connections.

Along with these, I have one more concept to share with you...

I love helping people communicate better. One of my big focuses with my clients and classes is to help improve communication. I study it, take classes on it, and desire to make average leaders become great leaders through improved communication. Because of this, I have chosen to become a Certified DISC Behavioral Consultant.

If you are unfamiliar with DISC, it is a personality profile program that helps you understand who you are, and how you communicate to people. As you study DISC, you can start to identify other people's personalities too, so you can understand how to more effectively communicate with them. It allows you to tailor your approach with team members and clients, as well as help you understand what kind of jobs/tasks you are more wired for.

I have clients who use DISC trainings to improve their company, and relationships. Some of them order DISC assessments before they'll hire people. The results of the assessments don't disqualify the applicants, but it helps whoever is hiring to know what questions to ask in order to make sure that they are the right fit for the job. In building a business, the right butts in the right seats is absolutely top priority. I've even had married couples/families take assessments to help them communicate.

I recently gave a short presentation on this and I wanted to share it with you. So check it out:

Understand that the only way to truly know someone's communication style is by taking the assessment, but you can some ideas based on how people interact with you. They more you study it, and pay attention to the different qualities, the better you get at it.

If you want to know more about DISC, or start using it with your business, or your hiring process, reach out to me at thebassictrainer@gmail.com and let's talk about how knowing your DISC personality profile can improve your relationships.

Now go out there with this information, and make better connections with the people who are important in your life! #watchwhathappens #addingvalue
